Don Oscar
Beneficio Don Oscar is named after its founder, Mr. Oscar, who unfortunately is no longer alive. The processing plant and the farm are run by his two sons, Alejandro and Horacio. The farm covers an area of 38 hectares and produces 81 tons of green coffee per year. During the harvest (December - March), up to 90 people work on the farm (mainly pickers from Panama), and outside the harvest, 8 permanent employees, including the owners.

How does it taste?
This lot was selected by Kateřina in March 2023. She wrote these descriptors in her cupping form: strawberries, creamy body, excellent balance and gave it a very high score of 88 points. After the container arrived to Prague, we froze the coffee and after 2 years it is now the right time to share this delicacy with you.

Processing
The coffee processing is identical to other "micromills" in Costa Rica. Colombian Penagos eco-pulpers are used, on which the amount of pulp left on the bean can be adjusted. This eliminates fermentation in tanks. Drying takes place either on African beds (15-18 days), on concrete patios or, in case of inclement weather, in automatic dryers (at a constant temperature of 45 °C). The Solis brothers grow various varieties (villa sarchi, typica mejorada, geisha), but the majority of volume belongs to caturra and catuaí. The entire farm is divided into 15 lots. Every year, in a blind tasting, coffees from the Coyote lot, located at an altitude of 2000 m above sea level, easily win for us.
Our lot was processed, unusually for Costa Rica, using the classic dry method, when the cherries are left to dry in the pulp and skin to a final moisture content of 11-12% on African beds.
